Release Notes for Recovery Series and Unitrends Backup 10.3.9

DESCRIPTION

This document describes enhancements and fixes introduced in the 10.3.9 release. For upgrade instructions and considerations, reference the Upgrade Guide for Recovery Series, Recovery MAX, and Unitrends Backup.

Security enhancements

This release adds the following enhancements:

  • Events showing a password change has taken place and the user whose password has changed are now visible in the Notifications report (Reports > Appliance > Notifications Report).
  • Any form of the word Unitrend as a password is now blacklisted to enforce best practices and avoid the insecure use of common names.
  • The Quick Setup Wizard now requires the user to change both the OS and UI root user passwords to enforce best practices for new deployments. Previous to this, only the UI root user password would be changed during new deployments.

Fixes

The table below lists fixes contained in this release. Unless stated otherwise, you can apply each fix by simply upgrading your appliance.

Component   Bug
Backup
  • Hyper-V clusters – Resolved an issue where rebooting a cluster node caused subsequent incremental backups to include all data blocks (changed blocks and unchanged blocks). This fix requires upgrading to the 10.3.9 Windows agent.
Hot backup
copy
  • Deduplicated backups on encryption-enabled appliances (appliances that have been configured with an encryption key and passphrase) - Optimized handling of deduplicated and encrypted data to yield significantly faster backup copy job performance.
Recovery
  • Windows image-level backups of GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks – Resolved an issue where files could not be recovered in some cases due to an error in handling partition boundaries. In these cases, the recovery object was not created properly and could not be removed from the File Level
Recovery tab. This fix requires upgrading to the 10.3.9 Windows agent.
  • Recovery of deduplicated backups on encryption-enabled appliances (appliances that have been configured with an encryption key and passphrase) - Optimized recovery operations to address performance issues. This fix yields the most significant performance improvement for these recovery operations:
    • File-level recovery from host-level backups of virtual machines
    • Instant recovery of Windows image-level backups
    • Windows replicas
    • Virtual machine instant recovery
