Dashboard page (8.0)

ISSUE

The Dashboard provides an overview of your Unitrends Virtual Backup installation, including protection status for your virtual machines, recovery details, a summary of all backup storage, alerts, and current jobs in progress. The Dashboard is comprised of multiple widgets that organize this information. 

Backup Summary

The Backup widget lets you see which VMs have been protected or not and line graphs that can be used to monitor backup performance. This widget is located in the top left corner of the Dashboard and appears as follows:

Errors

These include all jobs that ended in error for the last seven days. Clicking on this number will open the Explore Job History dialog window that will display all error jobs in a table. For more information on the Explore Job History window see Job Explorer in the Jobs - Recent & Recent System Jobs tabs (8.0) article.

Note: Errors also include cancelled jobs.

Not Protected 

This displays the number of VMs in your environments that have not had a successful backup within the last seven days. Clicking this number provides a report (on the Reports page (8.0) of the Interface) that displays all unprotected VMs. You can sort the information by clicking on the heading of each column or by using the search functions at the bottom of the table.

Protected

This is the number of VMs with a valid backup within the last seven days. Clicking this number provides a report on the Reports page (8.0) of the Interface that displays all protected VMs.

Recover Summary

The Recovery widget displays details about recent recovery tasks. It lets you see which VMs were recently restored, the number of currently active FLR (File Level Recovery) objects, and the number of currently active IR (Instant Recovery) sessions available. This widget is located in the top right corner of the Dashboard page and appears as follows:

Recent Restores

Recent Restores include the total number of all VMs recovered in the last seven days. Clicking on this number will open the Explore Job History dialog window that displays all recently recovered jobs.

Active File Level Recovery (FLR)

Active FLRs display the total number of all active File Level Recovery objects in all environments, including both iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) and CIFS (Common Internet File System) shares. Clicking this number takes you to the Recover page and gives you access to all active FLR objects currently available.

Active Instant Recovery (IR)

Active IRs display the total number of active IR sessions. Clicking this number takes you to the Recover page - Instant VM Recovery tab.

Replication Summary

The Replication widget displays details about recently replicated VMs. This widget is located on the right side of the Dashboard page.

Errors

These include the total number of jobs that included an error over the last 7 days. Clicking this number opens a Job history explorer with filter set to Replication Jobs with error from the last 7 days.

Replicas

These include the total of all replicas in all available environments. Clicking this number takes you to the Protect page - Replicas tab.

Storage

The storage widget shows details about available and used storage.

The widget displays the following:

Name - Name of the attached disk.

Appliance - Name of the appliance using this storage.

Used/Allocated - The amount of available and used storage. Placing the cursor over the bar in this column will display the amount of space used along with the amount still available. See figure below.

Write Speed - The average write speed for the storage.

Daily Growth - Percent change (increase/decrease) in the backup data store.

Daily Change - Percent change rate in source data.

Dedupe - Deduplication ratio (Backup storage / bytes written).

Sync - Displays current sync status for storage.

Active Jobs

The Active Jobs widget displays an at-a-glance view of all jobs currently running. You can filter this list by clicking any of the links (AllBackup, Recover, Replication, Archive) at the bottom of the widget. When a job appears in the widget, the job name will have an live link that if clicked will take you to the Active Jobs page. The job will be highlighted on the page with the details exposed at the bottom. After the job in progress completes, it is no longer displayed in the Active Jobs widget.

Alerts

The Alerts widget displays a table of recent alerts generated and appears at on lower left side of the Dashboard page. The widget includes the time the alert was generated and a message describing the incident. You can also access this widget by clicking the User-added image link located at the top right side of the banner.

In order to view the alert in more detail, click on the message and a pop-up will display more information.

To close the pop-up, simply click to the side of the widget.

Note: Do not click Dismiss Alert. This will remove the entire alert from the widget.

Widget Preferences

In the upper right corner of each widget you can adjust the refresh rate by clicking the preferences icon User-added image. You will be presented with options to change the rate anywhere from one second to ten minutes. You can also select Manual Refresh to update at the time of your choosing. Below is an example on how to change the rate using the Backup Summary widget.

Click Save to finish or Cancel to leave preferences unchanged.
