REPORTS: Protected Assets (aka Capacity Report)

SUMMARY

The Protected Assets report shows the amount of data that we need to protect on a given Protected Asset. Think of this as what data we collect during a Full backup. It is not a total of all the data collected by the appliance, but just a footprint of the Protected Asset.

ISSUE

How do I find out what Servers, Virtual Machines, and Databases we are protecting and how much data those servers have that we are asking the Appliance to protect?

I need to produce a "Capacity Report" for helping us determine what kind of Appliance we might need in the future.

RESOLUTION

The Protected Assets report shows the amount of data that we need to protect on a given Protected Asset. Think of this as what data we collect during a Full backup. It is not a total of all the data collected by the appliance, but just a footprint of the Protected Asset.

Follow the instructions below in the Tasks section to obtain this report and other reports such as the REPORTS: Backup History.

TASKS

Log into the HTML5 /ui/ Web Administrative Interface and...

  1. Click the REPORTS page on the left.
  2. For the Category, select APPLIANCE.
  3. Click on the CAPACITY REPORT from the Available Reports.
  4. Choose the Appliance you want the report from.
  5. Click on Generate Report. This may take a few minutes depending on the Appliance you have selected and the amount of data that needs to be compiled.

You can also add or remove various columns from the PROTECT, JOBS, and REPORTS tab to help you get more details about the data you are collecting and retaining.
