This article describes how to troubleshoot Installation errors from the Windows Installer logs.

Resolution / Workaround / Execution Process

Windows Installer creates a log in the %temp% directory each time an install package (msi file) is run.

Additional granularity for logging can be configured using the Microsoft Technet article: How to enable Windows Installer logging (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300).

To generate a verbose log without editing the registry you can install the Unitrends Agent manually from the command prompt using:

msiexec /i unitrends_agentx64.msi /l*v .\install.log

This will create a verbose installer log called “install.log” in the current directory.

Specific troubleshooting steps can be found in the Microsoft knowledge base.
