Can we run the Kroll PowerControls tool for a HOS based backup of a virtualized Exchange environment?
Customers want to know if VM or image backups can be used for granular exchange recovery using Kroll.
Yes. We can leverage the FLR (File level restore) to expose the Exchange virtual machine and point Kroll to it for item recovery.
Kroll Ontrack PowerControls for Exchange, and optionally for SharePoint, is available as an additional software package to install on a PC using 32bit versions of Microsoft Office.
This software can interface with the EDB data we expose through FLR recovery and export individual items or mailboxes granularly to either PST format or directly into an active exchange datastore.
For use with Exchange 2016 CU5 or higher customers may need to update to kroll 9.x or higher.
If you have an existing Kroll license purchased through Unitrends, or have an Enterprise Plus edition of our products and have active support for your asset, you may contact Unitrends Support to acquire an updated license to the current Kroll release. Key deleivery is done next business day for qualified updates.
Updated keys issued after Sept 1 2018 no longer limit the number of mailboxes protected and include Sharepoint granular recovery as well.
If you do not yet have a license for Kroll, Unlimited exchange licenses are available through Unitrends Enterprise Plus licensed assets. Enterprise Plus is available as an upgrade for both UB and Physical Recovery Series assets and this upgrade can be acquired through your sales rep or partner. Kroll licenses are not sold independent of Enterprise Plus, but existing legacy licenses can be upgraded and are grandfathered into this program.
